In part, because of her work with the Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, Oprah Winfrey has been named the Commencement Convocation speaker for Howard University's 139th graduating class on Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m. on the upper quadrangle of the main campus. In 2005 one of our students Birhan who had survived the Ethiopia famine of 1984 was interviewed by Oprah on her programme "Children who changed the world". This was an inspiration to all of us when we realized that Oprah's views on the importance and power of education so fitted our own.
