I just read an article by Oprah in the Oprah Magazine that I whole-heartedly agree with, and that you are not your defined by money or lack thereof. Her point in writing the article was to address how to have a healthy relationship with money, and she stressed that it was most imporant to do what you loved, versus do what you have to do to make money. You can find the article in the March 2008 issue of the Oprah Magazine. She discussed her early jobs and how she disliked them until she got a job making $100 a week as a radio announcer at the age of 17. She then decided that broadcasting was her true life calling, and loved it, saying that "I love this so much, even if you didn't pay me I'd show up every day, on time and happy to be here." This quote sums up the Oprah Magazine article very well.
I can certainly relate to that. I have worked in a variety of different jobs, and found one that satisfies me so completely that the money is secondary. The Oprah Magazine article rung a loud bell for me, and was happy that after leaving a high power corporate position, I am now doing something that I immensely enjoy and make a few bucks doing. |
