The Oprah Winfrey Show Losing Audience Share as Her Ideas Go Left of Center |

In anticipation of the Oprah Winfrey Show early this week on reincarnation, I was cruising through some news items about her. It seems that her popularity is slipping among her core audience of middle aged women. According to the news report, she has been slowly alienating people who do not like her stance on alternative faiths, The Secret, and Barack Obama. The reporter felt that she has embraced too many left of center issues to keep her large audience share, and that is the primary reason why the Oprah Winfrey Show's audience is dwindling.
Frankly, none of her positions that fall outside mainstream thinking bother me. People are never going to agree on everything, and I myself appreciate the fact that the Oprah Winfrey Show uncovers issues that fall outside the boundaries of mainstream culture. Her regular guests are exceptional people, and if I don't happen to agree with something on the Oprah Winfrey Show, I just turn it off, or open my mind a tiny crack to see if what she is addressing might have some applications in my own life after all. |
