Oprah Winfrey recently made the news for her appearance at the Stanford Graduation ceremonies a week ago. During her speech, she told the 4,500+ grads to never give up and to pursue whatever their dreams may be. She gave the example of what the Oprah Winfrey’s leadership academy for girls went through when it first opened. After spending 40 million dollars on the project Oprah’s school made the news not for academic achievement but for teacher-student molestation charges. This could have killed the schools image but the appropriate actions were taken and the public came to the understanding that it was not Oprah’s fault.
Oprah is not new to overcoming obstacles but at this point in her life, she is more focused on helping others. She was named Forbes Most Powerful Celebrity for the second year in a row after grossing 275 million dollars last year. Tiger Woods was right on her heals making 115 million dollars last year.
In her graduation speech Oprah Winfrey said, “I like money. It’s good for buying things. What you want is money with meaning. Meaning is what brings real richness to your life (mercurynews.com).”
