Back in 2007, Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls was put in a negative light after an employee was accused of abusing students. That trial has since been put on hold until October 2008 according to news from contactmusic.com. It has almost been a year since one of the dorm matrons, Tiny Makopo was arrested for assault of 14 students that included charges of soliciting some of the students as prostitutes. According to testimony from Oprah's school trial the abuse went on for 4 months.
The Oprah's school trial began in South Africa last week but the judge ruled that it would be postponed until October 22, 2008. Some of the students began testimony but those that have not testified will have to wait which has angered the prosecution.
I don’t think it is fair to blame Oprah Winfrey for any of the wrong doings that went on at her school. I am sure all of the employees hired were screened but that did not stop a person like Makopo from slipping through the cracks. If found guilty, Makopo could go to jail for 10 years.
