The South African Football Association (SAFA) will be donating the time of some of SAFA's top officials, including 4 female National Team players and members from the coaching department on Saturday, to give a coaching clinic on women's soccer at Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
The SAFA officials are led by SAFA's Conti Kubheka- Technical Manager: Coaching, Augustine Makalakalane- Head Coach Women's Senior National Team, Fran Hilton-Smith- Women's Football Teams Manager, Anna Monate- Assistant Coach Women's Senior National Team and Christina Phafane- Coach Development Officer.
Hilton-Smith said, "For us at SAFA this is a huge opportunity, presenting a workshop on women's football for Oprah Winfrey.
"Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls she has opened in our country has contributed to uplifting girls in South Africa, and including women's football in her curriculum is a big plus for us and will go a long way in developing the sport at youth level, where there is at present little development," said Hilton-Smith.
"We are really excited about this event and hope there will be a long term relationship put in place with her foundation, as has been indicated," said Hilton-Smith.
The Principal of Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls, Desiree Verdan, said, "I'm excited, the girls are excited and we hope this will not be a once-off. This is an absolutely great opportunity for our girls to get their motivation as we also have a small team going at Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy. Some of the girls have been talking endlessly about Banyana Banyana players, because they are so excited about them and identify with most of them."
